Need to make an impact quickly with ease and brevity?

Perhaps you are heading for an interview, or want to write a compelling CV, and need to give someone words to use to introduce you if you’re giving a talk.

Here’s a powerful formula I have used many times in workshops and in my coaching that powerfully captures the essence of someone…

Brainstorm your life’s “high points”.

Think of all the significant events in your life where you were at your best and naturally achieving without effort – when you were “in your flow”.

Pick three.

Select the three events that matter most to you. Tell the story of each to a trusted colleague or friend.  Between the two of you:

Identify your “Strength skills”.

List the skills you were using.  These are actions, “doing” words or behaviours, things you learned since you were born.

Pick out your “Strength Traits”.

List the personal qualities you were demonstrating when at your best.  They are “being” words, and were how you came into the world.

Then pick out the “Critical Outcomes” that you generated.

Think of outcomes you generated for yourself and for others, whether intentionally or not.

Identify the themes that emerge.

And they will. Select the core group of Skills, Traits and Outcomes that you believe are most key to your success when you are at your best.

Develop a pithy identity statement.

Craft a statement that incorporates these key words that reflect what you do when you are at your best, how you do it, and why. If it feels right, it’ll pack a punch!

Use in interviews and as a basis for your “elevator speech”.

Good luck!

It is easier to do this with a coach or good friend as they can see things about you that you are blind to – like the goldfish who can’t see the water in the bowl.
